Schmovie

Schmovie is a family-friendly party game we created and self-published through Galactic Sneeze. The premise is simple: win trophies by coming up with the funniest titles for ridiculous made-up movies.

As our first self-published game, we were hands-on with every detail, from early concept and manufacturer sourcing to building all the digital art files, selecting components, and getting the final product onto shelves. The schquid was rendered in 3D, I designed the remaining character costumes in Photoshop, and the hand on the front of the box was a commissioned piece from a MAD Magazine cover artist.

Outside the box, Schmovie built a passionate fanbase through social. Our weekly hashtag game on Twitter regularly trended in the US, UK, and Canada, and we surprised fans with real-time parody movie posters based on their titles. On Facebook, we ran a daily prompt for a full year, awarding custom digital trophies to the most-liked submissions.

Across three print runs, we managed marketing, logistics, and distribution ourselves, selling about 20,000 copies and even earning “Punsters of the Year” honors at the O. Henry Museum Pun-Off World Championships.
